Here are a couple quick links to get you started - most contain general information from the AAMC website. www.aamc.org/students/mcat/www.aamc.org/students/mcat/mcatessentials.pdfThe "MCAT essentials" link has a lot of frequently asked questions about test registration, information for the day of, etc. Feel free to use this thread to ask / answer any questions regarding MCAT content, format, horror, or success stories

One question that gets asked a lot and that I am always curious about is prep courses - if you've taken the MCAT, would you recommend a prep course? If so, which one?

I took the MCAT the summer after my sophomore year, and took a Kaplan course. I found the books helpful, but the classes were not always efficient in terms of how much you learned per hour spent in class.
The most helpful part of the course was learning how to take the test - it's computerized, and timed - and having almost 20 full length practice tests at your disposal. Learning how to take the test was the most difficult part of the MCAT for me.
In the end, I think whether or not the course is worth the money depends on your personal study style. I was extremely busy during the summer, and the course helped keep me on track by forcing me to study and take practice tests on a regular basis.
On the other hand, if you are very self-motivated and have a lot of extra time, you might be able to go without the course. If you do decide to fly solo, I would recommend buying additional online practice tests from the AAMC - you should plan to take at least 4 or 5 full length tests to prepare for test day.
